What is this for?
A chain harrow is used a few times a year to improve pasture. There are several designs but a common type for occasional use is made from 3 sets of chain sheets attached to a bar towed behind a vehicle. Each sheet of chain weighs about 45 kg (100 lbs) making them difficult to carry to and from the fields. This simple trolley makes the arduous task of setting up and putting away much easier.
Dimensions (to lift the rolled up harrow off the ground):
- Main bar 1620mm in front of the upright
- Upright 460mm from the axle to the main bar
- The main bar is 660mm off the ground
- Wheel 400mm diameter
- Axle width 800mm between the inside of each tyre
Materials (all sizes approximate):
- Galvanised steel tube 33mm OD 3mm thick walls (slides over axle)
- Stainless steel tube 25mm (1") OD 2mm thick walls (axle to fit 1"Dia wheel hub)
- Galvanised steel flat bar, 1"x2"Dia washers, spring clips, U-bolts, wheelbarrow or trailer wheels.
